Fisheye Fun!

I rented a fisheye lens (Nikkor 10.5mm/2.8) for this weekend (I’m headed to Monahans Sandhill State Park to spend some time with my sister), and I’ve been having fun with it :)

I really love the “big sky” effect from it - it rocks! (of course it did *not* hurt that the light was freaking AWESOME today - it was overcast behind me, where the sun was, so the light was soft, and lovely, and the rest of the sky was blue and cloudy, and so pretty!) It’s going to be super cool in the desert with sand dunes, I cannot WAIT!

An interesting hazard of such a WIDE lens, is that one often photographs one’s feet when they don’t intend to. Ooops :)

The disortion isn’t so bad when you’re at least a few feet from your subject though… I am realizing that the fisheye can be a much more versatile lens than I first imagined it to be. I am totally going to buy one :)

You can take wonderfully weird self portrats with it too! Focal distance is so NOT a problem with this lens. Of course it makes my already large forehead even bigger, and I’m not quite a fan of what it did with my arms.. but check out how tiny my foot is! lol

And one last fishy fun shot.. you can see my house and our barn, from two different angles! lol They “face” the same way, so it amuses me that there’s the side of my house and the front of the barn in one shot
